Varnish-impregnated glass forces a solid, moisture-tight dielectric over irregular lead geometry, which plain braid can't do on its own for MV apparatus leads.
Confirm cure and flexibility; heavy impregnation is stiffer but tracks well only if fully cured. Handle class-specific dielectric/thickness.
